Chapter One

“So It Begins”

February 7th, 1986 was the year that Syrion was born. A beautiful Wolf with dark gray fur along his back, and softer gray that laid along his underbelly, his icy blue eyes almost piercing the night. Though of course he wasn’t born in a hospital like most furs had, but was born in the country, with a few miles drive before hitting civilization. His parents didn’t exactly live or work on a ranch, but it was their own little sanctuary from the stupidity of the city. The land that they owned, was pretty well forested, making it easy for hunting, and living in these parts.

The Wolf had grown up just like any other fur, going to school and doing a few chores here and there around the house. And of course, just like any youngster, he got into little spats and misbehavior with his parents, especially when he didn’t want to do his chores. The times that he didn’t do his chores, he was often out in the woods playing around or exploring. Having explored a few caves in the general area, he couldn’t keep away from them, seeing how he was always that adventurous type.

Day in and day out, he continued on with his daily life. Going to school, doing his chores, or when he chose to that is, and goofing off in the wilderness. Until suddenly one day, when he was six years-old. A group of humans came to the area that he was at in the woods, in fact, one of the caves that he liked to sneak out to and hide in. The fairly tall humans stalked into the caves, using flashlights only to see where they were going, appearing to be looking for nothing in particular. Syrion came from where he was hiding at, and thought it would be a good gesture to say hello.

Upon coming from his hiding spot, things weren’t going as well as he had thought. The group of humans came right for him, without saying a single word. No hesitation, Syrion quickly bolts off, trying to get free from the humans that were going for him. Hopefully he could get out of the sight of them long enough to get behind a rock or something to hide. He had no idea what they were going to do, and didn’t plan on finding out either.

Getting a few feet from the light of the flashlights, he bolts down a few corridors within the cave, hiding behind a nearest boulder that laid within. Closing his eyes for a few moments, his heart started to beat heavily in his chest, his ears flicking back flat against his head. “Must get away, must keep myself hidden from them. Maybe I can make a bolt for the entrance, once they spread out a bit more..” he thinks quietly, not wanting to move. Opening his eyes again, he quickly looks around the edges of the rock, wondering if he had gotten far enough ahead of them.

No light being seen, he sat there thinking for a few moments, wondering if now would be a good time to even try to make his escape. Once he got outside, he would be able to make a straight line for home, not even looking back once to see how far behind him they were. Beginning to crawl lightly from behind his rock, he starts to move toward where the exit would have been.

All the sudden, he saw the flashlights appearing from behind him, and almost engulfing him in the light. Making a desperate sprint for the exit, he could hear the fast feet behind him hitting the rock flooring of the cave. Zig-zagging his way there, maybe he would be able to lose them while making his desperate sprint. “Gotta get away, gotta get away!” he thinks frantically, his breath starting to get deeper and more panicked.

He could see the exit getting closer, the light from the outside sun getting even closer to him with each passing step. He was almost there, didn’t have much longer to go. Then that’s when he felt it, one of the humans had grabbed hold of him and pushed him to the ground. Struggling desperately to get himself free. Kicking and punching at whoever came close to him, managing to land a few of the hits, but showed no effect at all.

Then he felt something else, a hard slam in the back of his head, which finally did it in for him. Making him start to go black, his body not able to do anything else anymore. Was he truly going unconscious? This wasn’t good, he needed to get out, but fading out they could do anything, including kill him in his darkness. Then that was it, everything was gone, no ability to hear anything or even more, making him think that he was truly dead. Or was he?
