The Black Feather

The black Feather

In a calm, cold winter night
Only the full moon's shine is bright
Between the trees there can be seen
A lake like crystal, so pure, so clean

On the sparkling water's waves
A black swan swims across the lake
The beauty of the darkness' slave
Makes me forget my journey's sake

The Swan is looking at me
As if it could not only see
That's what in front his eyes
As if it sees behind my disguise

The Beauty seems to look into my soul
Wishing to know my hopes and fears
Who I am and what might be my goal
For which reasons I cried so many tears

My body gets weak, I shiver
The look of that black swan
Made a man like me quiver
I'm paralysed until the dawn

Morning, as the birds start to sing
The swan spreads its pitch-black wings
Flies away to an unknown place
I look up and something touches my face:

A black Feather
