When a city fox goes hiking on a mountain trail, he doesn't expect to be watched, especially while he's sunbathing.

(The author wishes to note that the characters in this story are all eighteen years of age or older. Although it was written in tribute to a real person's fursonna of whose age the author was not certain, in this story that character is nineteen.)

It was beautiful! The forest glade lay just beside the mountain trail. Tall grass and meadow flowers bathed in blue sky light there, surrounded by thick stands of cedar and tall maples and oaks. One beam of sunlight broke through the trees. Its edge crossed a hillock on the far side of the glade. Oddly, no grass grew on the little hill, just soft, spongy moss. Tall cedars framed it like a natural stage with its own spotlight.
The young fennec fox looked at the hillock longingly, panting from the long climb and the heat of the day. A rest would be welcome now and what a beautiful place it was to rest in!
He sniffed the air carefully;...
