Luere

Well, like most shapeshifters who are freed from the confines of normal flesh and blood, Luere grew up into a lifestyle of whimsy.  He'd change his shape as needed to get his way, or to further along whatever amusing notions and pranks he could come up with.  He learned to thrive on trickery and dishonesty, and lived only to see how much trouble he could cause and get away with it.

Unfortunately for him, he soon wound up stepping on the wrong woman's toes - a witch.  Kidnapping her black cat familiar, he flew the poor creature to a nearby island and dumped it there to safely fend for itself.  He then temporarily usurped the familiar's role.  From there, he gave all sorts of incorrect potion-making advice, deliberately caused several 'accidents' in the lab, and was a general nuisance.

Eventually, the witch found him out and confronted him.  The shifter tried to escape by shifting into a big bird once again, but the witch cast a curse upon him before he could flee.  The curse denied him his inborn ability to change forms, leaving him stuck in the form of a bird!

Once he realized his curse, he tracked down the witch's familiar and offered to fly it back home, freeing it from its captivity.  Once done, he returned to the witch and asked for her forgiveness.  When she refused to lift his curse, he begged and pleaded and made such a pitiful show that the witch knew his remorse was genuine.  Her heart softened to him, but she still felt that he needed to learn a valuable lesson.  She lifted the curse, but only in part, saying that he would only be able to change forms when another person commanded him to.

Since then, he has found his way to this world, and is trying to find ways to cope with his inability to change.  Fortunately for him, change comes easily on this world to those who actively seek it, and there's plenty of opportunity for mischief.

Luere likes: new places, people, and experiences; succulent food, strong wine, soft beds, good company, hot sex, beauty in all forms ... all the finer things in life; pleasing others and finding he can get along with just about anybody

Luere dislikes: people who take advantage of his curse, being cursed, getting caught, getting turned into inanimate objects, being humiliated, closed-minded people, elitists, bullies

Being what he is, Luere has a very different outlook on life.  His curse has humbled him greatly.  He's very charming and very adaptable, but he's not used to making friends or staying in one place for very long.

In his previous years, Luere has left a trail of broken hearts and angry mobs wherever he went.  After meeting the witch and suffering his curse, he's left that life behind him.  He knows no one.
