Sprocket

Built by a kindly old tinkerer, Sprocket remembers her early years fondly. Treated as a surrogate daughter, the windup cat was always well cared for, wound every morning and oiled every night.

But then her maker passed away, and Sprocket found herself alone in the big, empty house he had left to her. One day, she simply pulled out her key, sat in a corner and let herself wind down - and didn't wake up for nearly a hundred years!

 At last, a new family bought the dusty old house, discovered Sprocket and finally wound her up again. After a few difficult days, Sprocket decided to go on with her life, and was accepted into the Johnson family, who have taken care of her ever since.

-Computers - she doesn't understand them at all!

Sprocket lives as a kind of third child/maid/pet to the Johnsons. When not vacuuming, dusting, doing dishes or preparing food, she's usually left to her own devices for most of the day.

Sprocket loves to read - she can finish a thousand-page tome in a matter of hours. She's also fascinated by television. So far, she's totally computer-illiterate, and has to rely on others to help her look things up online.

 On the other hand, Sprocket has a natural love of gadgets, especially things that run on springs and gears. Like her "father", she loves spending hours in his old workshop and building little mechanical birds, mice and other windup creatures. She's also been known to make Christmas and birthday gifts from scratch.

Her family is perfectly happy to let her leave the house, with the understanding that she's to be home before midnight. Although she's technically more than a century old, Sprocket looks like a college-age female, and acts much younger due to her lack of contact with the outside world.

 Thanks to a very sweet panther named Max, Sprocket has recently been upgraded. With some new electronic parts, Sprocket no longer has to rely completely on others to turn the big key in her back - although she does enjoy getting wound up by the right person once in a while!

Sprocket is very fond of her adoptive "family." This consists of Peter Johnson (tiger), his wife Emma (vixen), and their children Jack and Ellie.

 Sprocket has also begun making friends with other peole in the surrounding area, and has begun exploring the strange new world of "dating". Though shy and unfamiliar with many social customs, she is eager to meet new people and try new things. These outings have led her to some very kind and wonderful people, including Max and even a few female partners, all of whom have treated her well.

 Of course, like any cat, Sprocket's curiousity can sometimes get her into trouble, too ....
