His parents are renegade demons being protected by the Vatican. Born in the Vatican he has had what can only be called well a very strict catholic upbringing. needless to say  ... he didn't learn a thing. Basically on his way to becoming a biblical scholar at his age while still having no particularly strong religious views. 
As a condition of living there tests are run on him and his parents every so often, though surprisingly enough, despite all of the Vatican's history, they are not inhumane or even that outlandish. mostly just tests for anti demon barriers and blocking amulets and charms. his father and mother provide special information from the dark continent about seals and weaponry.

-Theology, though don't bring it up unless you want to get beaten (not by force, but by sheer volume) over the head with countless possible ways to look at almost anything
-Philosophy, The same rule applies
-Chemistry, Alchemy, Biology, Anatomy, Herbology, Physics, and the like even though he is by no means an expert in any of them
