[Y] History

Algernon's parents were both fully greek in blood, making him the same thing with the exception of being born in America. That was the time when his mother and father believed there was a better life for them in the country and for many years they were right. Both his mother and father remain alive today, but Algernon is never seen with either of them, nor does he ever communicate with them at all. Since he was younger, both of them have been living back in Greece, half a world away. Beyond that, anything about his family is near impossible to find out from him. To tell the truth, he prefers not to speak of them at all. The reason for his seperation from them on such an extreme level may be his nature.

From his first day alive, everyone could tell that Algernon was special. When he was a month old he learned how to walk. When he was a year old he knew how to read basic English. When he was two he could play the violin, piano, and harp, along with several other smaller skills in music. When he was eight years old he was already a master of algebra, trigonometry, intermediate physics, and the beginnings of philosophy. Both of his parents had been deeply religious, he had been the opposite before even losing his first tooth. Algernon was tested by several different professionals and none of them could settle on a defnite measure of his IQ, but all of them had chosen a value beyond the level of gifted.

Beforehand, many had noticed and taken interest in Algernon's remarkable intelligence, but as the years of his youth went by, the challenges of other people dwindled. Any puzzle or supposedly mind-boggling task that someone could throw at this otter was either rejected, or handled like child's play in the rare event that Algernon even decided to do it. Now if any person even gets the courage to offer something to him, the test is always rejected by him. As such, the world's interest in him has decidedly vanished.

[Y] Interests

You're more likely to discover a four-leaf clover than a smile on Algernon's face. Despite this, there are at least things that he appear to make him content. He'll never play in a place where there are lots of ears, but Algernon can bring forth a song from almost any conceivable instrument. If there's anything at all that soothes this otter, it's music. But it certainly isn't all kinds of music. In fact, he happens to be endlessly picky about what songs he'll listen to. The only genre that he almost universally accepts is classical music.

Other than those things, his interests are very ambiguous. Sometimes the most surprising things can raise his eyebrow temporarily, but not usually for long. Generally, the only time he'll feel interested is when something is presented to him that he doesn't understand. Although this is a rare thing to begin with, a puzzle that actually challenges him can indeed make him feel better, maybe even smile.

[Y] Dislikes

The list of Algernon's irritations is hundreds of time longer than his pleasures. There are too many things to count that he simply can't stand. In particular, he almost always despises people when they try to interact with him socially. It can be made much worse if the person in question is lacking in intelligence as well. People he deems stupid should simply stay away from him entirely.

The nature of Algernon's mind weighs heavily on him at all times. From that problem, he hates noise in almost all forms. If a clock ticks, the lack of change and relentlessness of it will make him angry enough to smash it. (Like he did when he was six) If a room is filled with chattering people, the chaos and randomness of it will overwhelm him. He prefers silence in nearly every moment of his life; silence which he doesn't get enough of in his noise-filled world.

[Y] About

Even though he has his brilliant mind, Algernon is miles away from happy. Don't count on seeing him in a good mood because if he ever is, it's because he's alone and at peace. A drawback of his mental power, he suffers from something similar to OCD. His mind forces him to register every detail of everything around him at all times. Finding ways to calm that solid tendency has been nearly impossible for him. At any given moment, Algernon would be able to provide how many seconds ago an event occurred accurately to the third decimal point.

He grew up in a sizable family of fellow otters, but he has never been like them in the slightest. He never plays, hates socializing, and would rather get a burn than go for a swim. People often don't realize this either, which can lure them into a very wrong assumption that never ends well. If you're ever to hear Algernon playing an instrument then you would have to be hiding out of sight and earshot.

[Y] Relationships
The only socializing you're likely to see him engaging in is him trying to get someone to leave him alone. If he has any friends, then no one knows who they are. As for his family, they might as well all be deceased in his eyes. He isn't even friends with himself, so don't expect any other person to be different.
