Mordecai Stone-Hand was a paladin.  Until his family was murdered and he was unable to apprehend the killers.  Outraged and frustrated by his order's refusal to help him in his time of need, he became a blackguard, trading his holy powers for unholy ones.  The transition has left his sanity strained, but not yet broken.  He knows why he does the things he does, but he cares not at all for any damage he may leave in his wake.

He has always been cold and ruthless in his dispensation of justice. Now he delivers it with negative energy and dark magic instead of holy power. Mordecai uses a broadsword and a shield, both reinforced with unholy spells. The sword, Black End, can fire bolts of pure negative energy. The shield, Death's Bulwark, can create an anti-magic field that prevents an enemy from using any spells while not affecting those allied with Mordecai.
