Nathanial Shandra grew up in a noble Breton family in High Rock. A talented mage from a young age Nathanial's father hoped he would get into the family business. Which was controlling some of the biggest magical and alchemical supply chains in High Rock. So it was a pretty big deal when Nathanial went to school to study the history of magic. However fate decided differently. A business partner hired killers to kill the Shandra family.

They succeeded except for Nathanial. He escaped on a boat heading for Cyrodil. It didn't end there however. Ending up without a coin to his name Nathanial turned to using his talents at magic and knowledge to become an adventurer. This was how he worked his way up to Skyrim hoping his past would stay burried.
