The daughter of a sea captain, Carolyn always had hopes of inheriting her father's ship. Although she was most skilled at sailing, it was her brother who inherited the ship. Gotta love the damned male line of inheritance. She eventually found herself content with simply being a deck hand. At least her brother respected her enough to keep her in a job below deck, or worst, refuse her wish to work on his ship altogether. The sea was her home. To give that up would be a slow death for her. When her brother found himself forced to either give up his ship or turn to pirating to have enough money for himself and the crew, it was an easy decision, and Carolyn handled the transition with ease. She was quick to learn the skills needed to use a cutless, and quicker still to learn how to use it in a fight. She managed to keep the sweet disposition her father always loved about her, yet now she had more than a slap across the cheek waiting for any males who dared crossed the line with her.
Everything changed one fateful day when her brother and crew messed with the wrong ship. They found themselves locked in a deadly battle, and her brother was on the losing end. Carolyn fought tooth and nail when she was saved, stopping only to watch with tear-filled eyes as her father's ship sank, with her brother and the crew... her brethren.
It was a good few weeks before anyone would hear anything but a growl come from her lips. Surprisingly, the first one she stopped growling to was the captain. It was hard to stay angry at someone as sweet as him, and eventually that sweetness swept up her heart and she joined his crew.
