Anubis the Ferryman

One of the last of a long lineage of ancient caretakers, Anubis, like his namesake, is a mortician.

After growing up in America, Anubis O’Malley opted for adventure at the age of 18 moving to Russia too con as much money out of the broken communist system that had fallen in his childhood. Upon reaching Russian he found out that the bear’s in charge of the Russian mob were not accepting of competition. After fleeing into the mountains he got a job operating a ferry across a river between two podunk  towns. In short, the Russians drank nothing but Vodka and ate nothing but meat and potatoes, which was a serious turn from the whiskey, meat, and potatoes of his father’s cooking. The stint in Russia was cold and hellish, but the work was honest and the booze cheep. Then he got a letter from Cairo. His grandfather was on deaths door and wanted Anubis to come see him before he died. Anubis, senior, told Anubis, junior, that he needed him to take over the family business. Thus at 21 Anubis the Ferryman (as he had become known as) became a mortician, a ferryman not of cargo, but of souls.

Right now he lives in Cairo, Egypt. His life is full of secrets and secrecy. As a mortician he is known as the last in a lineage of great morticians, the final caretaker of an ancient art, as old as time itself, embalming.  As an individual, he is a mystery to the vast majority. With few friends and fewer reasons for them, he mostly keeps to himself. That, along with the cloak and hood of his profession, has created a certain air of enigma. At the same time, he gets around a bit… ok a lot. And when the cards are all down, it’s pretty hard to hide anything.
