Description
Here is a good reason why I research animal anatomy before I create a furry character. The opossum character shown here is the way I use to draw them 30 years ago, when the only opossums I've ever seen, I had to be content with seeing them at the preverbal "keep your distance". In 1990, my mother an I rescued a litter of baby opossums from their road killed mother. One male made it and survived. My next drawings, "Skip and Opie" were drawn in 1991, after I had gotten familiar with opossum's features from the one I had. You can certainly see a difference between them and this. Skip and Opie look more like opossums. Looking back on it, I can't really say what my opossum characters from 30 years ago looked like...maybe a whatcamacallit. 11 years ago, I rescued two baby female opossums after my dog killed their mother in my back yard. And in January 2004, I rescued a young female opossum, out of a highway, who had her head bumped by a car just enough to keep her woozie headed all the time. This is not a suggestion to anyone...I'm just buggy about wanting to draw my characters with anatomically correct features. That's just me.
